There many different types of ultra-portable vape pens on the market today. Many people choose to go with 510 threaded vape pens to fit standard oil cartridges for distillates or wax atomizers for dabbing solid concentrates on the go. There are also pre-filled oil cartridges and disposable vape pens without custom built-in batteries. Problems can arise overtime, which can prevent you from getting the best vape experience. Here, we bring you our expert advice about how to get your vape pen working again.

The Absolute Basics
You’d be surprised by how many people think their vape battery is broken when it isn’t switched on! Before you panic and think you need to buy a new device, check you’ve turned on your vape pen by pressing the main button five times consecutively. Also make sure that battery has been fully charged.

Change The Coils or Cartridge
The coils inside the battery aren’t designed to last forever. At some point, they’ll need to be replaced. However, if you use your vape pen very frequently, replacements coils or replacement cartridges will be needed more regularly. You should try cleaning the battery top first to make sure there isn’t a connection problem. Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to wipe over the connections to clean any gunky wax or oil built-up over time. This will ensure that you're always getting the strongest connection possible.

A Broken Battery
Sometimes, your vape pen might not be working simply because the battery could be broken. Although a quality 510 battery should a couple years, a majority of the batteries available on the market tend to die after a couple months of heavy use. Dropping your vape pen battery or getting it wet can also contribute to lowering it's lifespan. If you're a medical patient or a connoisseur who vapes daily, you’ll need to replace your battery more quickly, which is why is why it's highly recommended to go with quality 510 thread batteries backed by manufacturer's warranty of at least two years.

Unblocking The Airflow
If you’re having problems with a vape pen that won’t hit, there could be a few different causes. One of the most common is a blocked airflow. This is an especially common problem if you use disposable oil cartridges or wax atomizers with the same mouthpiece repeatedly without cleaning it. Oil cartridges leave by-product residue in the mouthpiece which builds-up with time. Eventually, the airflow will become completely blocked and this will prevent your vaporizer pen from fully hitting.

Take a look inside your mouthpiece. Can you see sticky extracts and maybe lint from your clothes? If so, a deep clean could resolve your hitting problem. Take the mouthpiece off the vaporizer, take a pin or needle and try to poke out anything blocking the airflow. Reattach the mouthpiece and try taking another hit. If it still doesn’t work, move onto the next solution.

Prolonging The Battery Life
It’s always better to prevent a battery problem from occurring in the first place. You can prolong your battery’s lifespan by depleting it fully right out of the box and charging it to the max every time. You should also make sure to store the battery at the an even room temperature. Too cold or too hot a storage temperature will reduce its lifespan. However, if your vape pen won’t draw or charge, you may have an issue with its battery. Again, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this problem.

Maintaining & Cleaning The Heating Element
Your vape pen’s battery performance may be compromised by a heating element with blocked airflow. Even worse, a blocked heating element could make your device unsafe to use. You should, therefore, check for residue inside the chamber. If you spot grime and byproducts clogging the inside of the chamber, you should clean it out. You can do this by heating up the chamber a little to loosen the residue. This will make the cleaning process quicker and easier. Make sure you don’t heat the device until it is too hot or you could risk getting burned. Take a cotton swab which has been soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Use the swab to wipe around the heating chamber’s rim and inside it.

Remember to take care with the coil though. It is extremely sensitive, and if you put too much pressure on it, it could be permanently damaged. Check the battery head too to see if any thin films, leaked concentrate or small particles are touching the battery. If you see anything which shouldn’t be there, remove it carefully. This may help clear up airflow to get your vape pen functioning properly again.
